Who we are
Civicos Training and Communications is a new, not-for-profit organisation with big ambitions!
The company was established in August 2016 by two Glaswegians, John Robertson and Brian McNee. Until early summer 2016, both men managed the training department of a large third sector intermediary agency, but were made redundant when that organisation decided to remodel its learning services. John and Brian enjoyed what they did, and believed in its worth. And so, rather than seek employment elsewhere, they decided to set up their own training and communications company, primarily focused on serving the needs of civic society organisations in Scotland.
Our experience
John has almost three decades experience working in media, marketing, journalism, communications and training provision. In a varied career, he worked in a press office in a large arts organisation, as media manager at the 1999 Festival of Architecture and Design, as a freelance journalist, a desktop designer and a speechwriter for the Scottish Government. Latterly, John worked for a dozen years in the Scottish third sector, where he grew to understand and appreciate its unique contributions to society – as well as the many problems that it faces.

Brian has been a qualified trainer for fifteen years, firstly with British Airport Authorities and eventually running his own training company. He has worked in various industries over the years, from shop floor factories to local and central government to aviation and latterly the third sector.
Our team
Besides John and Brian, Civicos has voluntary input from four third sector professionals. All of them have offered their services gratis, as they are keen to see Civicos prosper and grow. Their skills range in scope from corporate management to marketing and communications and corporate finance. Civicos has a growing team of over two dozen business consultants, funding experts and professional trainers, each of whom work for us on a fee basis.
Our guiding principles
Brian and John both believe in the worth of civic society, and the good that it does.  When they were made redundant, they recognised that they wanted work that contributed to society. And so they decided to establish a company that provided third sector organisations in Scotland with a solid and trustworthy service at the best possible value.
How we aim to create value
Our pricing strategy revolves around keeping our own costs as low as possible and passing on the cost savings to our customers. Civicos training is typically about 60% of the cost of mainstream training providers. For example, a one day Microsoft course retails with us at £142, whereas mainstream providers in Scotland are charging anywhere between £240 to £359 for exactly the same course.
How can we help?
Civicos is here to help. We will never try to take more from you than we deserve, and we will always do our best to make sure that you get the product or service youneed. If you are interested in finding out how we can help your organisation to prosper, then get in touch! We will be happy to discuss the best way to run a special session of any course for you, for up to 12 staff, at a date of your choosing, and at your own venue or in our training rooms.  Delivery fees start at £600, which can work out at only £50 per attendee.
